I drank almost every day for 10 years. The biggest break I had in that 10 years was maybe two months, and that happened once.

I'm happy to say that I've been sober for a year and a half now, and omfg, I DO NOT miss it at all.

When Katya says "it's a poison" she's not lying.

I was a person who had/has problems with addiction, but regardless of that, even if I DIDN'T have problems with moderation, it's still a poison. It's still not good for you, and it still brings suffering.

I grew up in war torn Africa. My first order in my first restaurant was a gin and tonic. I was a child (white child, very privileged, etc.) and I somehow knew the hell we were in.

I’m almost 3 months sober at 24. I didn’t drink all the time but when I did drink I went over board to the point that I’m puking. I don’t like the taste of alcohol or the way it makes me feel anymore.

This was the same realisation I had at 21 (legal drinking age is 18 in my country), my dad’s side of the family has a very bad history of alcohol and substance abuse thanks to an extremely strong and nasty addiction gene, which I realised I had inherited and was at danger of going down the same self destructive path as so many of my relatives before me based on the numerous telling experiences I had already had with alcohol. It’s been almost 3 years since I had my last drink and I honestly don’t miss how expensive drinking is and how bad I felt the next morning
