To Make Cooked Dal

Toor Dal - 1/2 Cup
Tomato - 2 Nos
Garlic - 25 Cloves
Turmeric Powder - 1 Tsp
Salt - 1/2 Tsp
Water



To Make Mullangi Sambar

Radish - 2 Nos
Oil - 1 1/2 Tbsp
Urad Dal - 1 Tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Red Chilli - 2 Nos
Hing / Asafoetida - 1/4 Tsp
Onion - 1 No.
Curry Leaves
Green Chilli - 3 Nos
Rock Salt - 1 Tsp
Salt - 1 Tsp
Chilli Powder - 1 Tsp
Coriander Powder - 1 Tsp
Water
Tamarind Puree - 1/4 Cup
Coriander Leaves
Grated Coconut

Method

First, cook ½ cup washed toor dal in a pressure cooker with 2 chopped tomatoes, 12-15 garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon turmeric, and ½ teaspoon salt. Add enough water, close the lid, and pressure cook for 5 whistles. Set aside.

Now, heat 1.5 tablespoons oil in a kadai. Add 1 teaspoon urad dal, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, ½ teaspoon mustard seeds, 2 red chilies, and ¼ teaspoon hing. Sauté. Add 1 chopped onion, curry leaves, and 3 green chilies. Next, add 2 sliced radishes, 1 teaspoon rock salt, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, and 1 teaspoon coriander powder. Mix and cook for 2 minutes.

Pour ½ cup water, cover, and cook for 10 minutes. Then, add ¼ cup tamarind puree, mix well, and add the cooked dal. Adjust water and cook for 10 minutes.

Finally, add salt, chopped coriander, and grated coconut. Serve hot with rice and ghee. Enjoy!
