This time, I bring you a trip to Rebun Island, Japan’s northernmost island ranked #1 among remote islands that you must visit once in your life! An extraordinary northern landscape and exquisite gourmet food make it the perfect hidden gem for adults!

Rebun Island is located at the northern tip of Hokkaido, floating next to Rishiri Island, with a population of about 2,500. Known as the “Floating Island of Flowers,” it’s the only island in Japan located north of the 45th parallel, fostering rich plant life due to its unique climate and natural environment.

Rebun Island has a long history where the indigenous Ainu people settled and developed a culture in harmony with nature. The name comes from the Ainu words “Rep Un Shiri” (island offshore). From June to August, blooming flowers paint the island, and hiking trails like the “Rebun Island 8-Hour Course” are especially popular, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the island’s abundant nature.

The island offers fresh seafood nurtured by the cold currents of the Rishiri-Rebun Strait. Especially notable is the uni (sea urchin), famous nationwide for its sweetness and rich flavor.

You can access the island by ferry from Wakkanai or Rishiri Island. While buses are available on the island, renting a car is recommended.
