"I was seeing chicken in my dreams."

Poet Nick Makoha interviews footballer Eniola Aluko as part of the Thinking Outside the Penalty Box project. They talk about football, poetry, identity and her Nigerian roots. Here she speaks about trying to be vegan.

The Thinking Outside the Penalty Box project was created by Lizzy Attree and Nick Makoha to tackle racism and explore the lives of African players through poetry. The Poetry Society's Young Poets Network partnered on this project to inspire young people to write new poems in response to these extraordinary lives.

There are poems about footballers including George Weah, Mario Balotelli, Kolo Touré, Mikel John Obi, Stephen Keshi, Gervinho, Chioma Ubogagu and Eniola Aluko.

This project is funded by Arts Council England.
