In a quiet residential neighbourhood of Tokyo, architect Masato Igarashi of IGArchitects designed a unique 59sqm/635sqft concrete home for himself and his wife—doubling as his architecture studio. Built as a stack of seven skip floors, the compact home maximises light, space and connection through layered levels, large windows, and open sightlines. Each level serves a distinct purpose: from the ground-floor office surrounded by books and plants, to a 3.3-metre-long stainless steel kitchen tucked between floors, to the flexible living and dining area that leads seamlessly to a west-facing bedroom filled with greenery. Thoughtfully crafted details include a 6-metre-high bookshelf and stairs that double as storage, seating, and shelving.
