The Sperm DNA Fragmentation Test is a laboratory test used to measure the integrity of DNA in sperm. This test is used to assess the potential impact of sperm DNA damage on male fertility and to determine the suitability of sperm for use in assisted reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Sperm DNA fragmentation is thought to contribute to decreased fertility and an increased risk of miscarriage and birth defects. The test measures the percentage of sperm with fragmented DNA, which can be indicative of the quality of the sperm. High levels of DNA fragmentation can indicate that the sperm will have difficulty fertilizing an egg or that the resulting embryo will be less viable.
