Kumily, also spelt as Kumaly is a revenue village and Gram Panchayat in the Idukki district of Kerala. It is a town in Cardamom Hills near Thekkady and Periyar Tiger Reserve. Kumily is a gateway town into Kerala from Tamil Nadu.

Two national highways pass through Kumily town.

NH 183 (previously known as NH 220) connects Kollam in Kerala and Dindigul in Tamil Nadu. The part of Kottayam to Kumily is commonly known as KK road which is the main steam of transportation and passing through the near by towns Vandiperiyar, Kuttikkanam, Mundakayam, Kanjirapally, Ponkunnam and reaches Kottayam. KK road also connects Kumily to Thiruvananthapuram through Mundakayam and Pathanamthitta. Also Ernakulam can access through Mundakayam, Ponkunnam, Pala, Thalayolaparambu and Thripunithura.
NH 185 connects Adimaly and Kumily through important towns like Painavu, Cheruthoni, Kattappana and Anavilasam of Idukki district.

The nearest railway station is 107 km away at Kottayam. Cochin International Airport is the nearest airport to Kumily of about 140 km distance.

Kumily, on the outskirts of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, is a plantation town closely associated with Thekkady. While Thekkady is a sleepy, picturesque place garbed in greenery, Kumily is a busy town. The spice and tea plantations and the bustling spice trading activities have made Kumily one of the important tourist and commercial centres in Kerala.

Kumily, situated in Periyar Valley, drops off to the plains of Tamil Nadu. Apart from being the main bus station in the Periyar region, the town also provides decent, affordable accommodation facilities to tourists.

Apart from tourists, Sabarimala devotees and workers from Tamil Nadu also visit Kumily from time to time.

The nearest airport is Madurai and so is the Railway Station but since it is on the Kerala side it would be wise to get in via Kottayam.

Separating Kerala and Tamil Nadu, this quaint little town is best known for its plantation walks, diverse wildlife, boating and trekking and its Ayurvedic massages.

Expansive spice gardens enthral tourists. One must also visit the Kalari Centre where performers perform the unique martial arts form of Kalaripayattu. The primary tourist attraction here are the plantations and a walk through them is sure to give you an enjoyable experience. One can also enjoy boating and trekking as well as watching the huge variety of wildlife. Another place to visit is the Abraham's Spice Garden.

If you are planning to reach Kumily by road, Kottayam, Kochi and Kollam would be the best locations to start your trip. You can also reach this town easily from other parts of Kerala as it has a well-sorted network of roads. Tourists from nearby cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Ooty, Coimbatore, and other nearby places can also reach Kumily by road.
