250ml Water 0.00
1 tsp Bicarbonate 0.02
125g / 4.4oz Butter 0.93
150g / 5.3oz Brown Sugar 0.43
2 Tbsp Black Treacle 0.16
2 Eggs 0.26
150g / 5.3oz SR Flour 0.07
1 tsp Vanilla 0.12
300ml Double Cream 1.15
1 tbsp brown sugar 0.08
3 tbsp Black Treacle 0.26
Total Cost 4.42

Stone and chop the dates, add the water and bring them to a boil. Simmer for 3 mins. Turn off the heat and add the bicarbonate of soda.
Whisk until the froth goes down.
In a bowl add the butter and brown sugar and beat together. Once smooth add one egg at a time and beat into the mix.
Add the Black Treacle and beat in.
Add the flour and mix into a batter. Then add the cooled date mix and vanilla and beat it all together.
Bake at 160c / 320f / Gas mark 3. For 40 - 45 mins.
Put the double cream into a pan and place over a medium heat. Add the brown sugar and vanilla essence and then the black treacle and stir until it begins to thicken.
Serve while the cake is still warm.
