The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Tamil Nadu as a deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal intensifies into Cyclone Fengal. Districts of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal have been put under a red alert for expected extremely heavy rainfall. Schools and colleges in Chennai, Cuddalore, Chengalpettu, and other districts have been closed as heavy to very heavy rains are expected to persist for the next two days.
