A liver hemangioma is a noncancerous lesion in the liver. A liver hemangioma is a tangle of blood vessels. Other terms for a liver hemangioma are hepatic hemangioma and cavernous hemangioma.
Most cases of liver hemangiomas are discovered during a routine medical examination. Most of the people not required treatment due to small size and no symptomes.
When a liver hemangioma causes signs and symptoms, they may include:
1. Pain in the upper right abdomen
2. Feeling full after eating only a small amount of food
3. Nausea
4. Vomiting
Diagnosis
Tests and procedures used to diagnose liver hemangiomas include:
A. Examination
B. Ultrasound
C. Contrast CT scanning
D. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Treatment
If your liver hemangioma cause any signs or symptoms, you may need the treatment.
Liver hemangioma treatment depends on the location and size of the hemangioma, whether you have more than one hemangioma, your overall health, and your preferences.
Treatment options may include:
Surgery to remove the liver hemangioma.
Embolization, it is a non surgical treatment in which to stop blood flow to the hemangioma. Without a blood supply, the hemangioma may stop growing or shrink. Injecting embolic material also known as arterial embolization. Healthy liver tissue is unharmed because it can draw blood from other nearby vessels.
Liver transplant surgery. Rarely it required.
