Nice warm weather with planespotting the entire afternoon and evening on a beautiful summer day. A lake breeze formed late afternoon, causing the runway pattern to flip from west flow to east flow. The most interesting thing about this day was diversions. At 8:42, a United 777-300ER from SFO to EWR diverted to ORD because of some bad thunderstorms in the Tri-State area. We also had a couple United 737s going to EWR which I did not catch that diverted for the same reason. On this same day, we had another diversion which occurred at 22:57. The United 777-200ER was flying from Houston to Amsterdam, when it started to dump fuel over Lake Michigan and then diverted to O'Hare. This diversion occurred due to an unruly passenger who was flying in business class and became upset when he found out his meal choice was not available. You can read more about the incident here: simpleflying.com/united-airlines-unruly-passenger-…. The 777s that diverted to ORD are not the types we usually get. The United 777-300ER flights were common during the pandemic, but have since become a rarity at O'Hare. As for the United 777-200, it had GE90s, as opposed to the usual 777-200s we usually get that have PW4000s.
