Welcome to my very first garden tour. We try to be as self-sufficient as possible and a big part of that is growing a large garden. These gardens not only supply us with all the organic fresh vegetables that we could eat during the summer, but they also provide 90% of the vegetables that we will eat during the winter as well. With the cost of groceries and food shortages due to COVID, growing your own food just makes sense. I make sure to plant enough that I can preserve vegetables us for the next year through canning, dehydrating, and freeze drying. Each year my garden gets bigger and bigger, and this year is the biggest yet. I expanded!! I started a brand-new garden and I’m going to show it all to you and talk about what I’m doing with that right now and what the goal is for it in the fall to make it a no till garden.

Gardening in Northern Idaho is not without its challenges, and I will show you some of the things that I do to help us grow some of the vegetables that we really like and what I do to extend our growing season. We are going to talk irrigation, mulching, lasagna gardening and whether to use weed mat or not too. You are going to get a peek at my green house, a big failure in the garden, some experimental crops, and a look at some changes that I implemented into the way I garden that gave my compacted overworked soil a new life. So come on and have a look at the gardens that feed my family of four.
