Game Review & Impressions
---------------------------------------------------
Sega received plenty of plaudits for its sprite scaling arcade games back in the day, but games like Galactic Storm proved that Taito had just as much technical and engineering chops as their rival. This is a pseudo-3D tour de force in terms of the number of sprites flying around the screen, with thunderous explosions and zinging phaser bolts aplenty.

What makes Galactic Storm particularly interesting, perhaps more in retrospect, is the influence of contemporary sci-fi and cinema on the design. Manga and anime-inspired robots are pretty much a given, but the inclusion of giant sandworms exploding from the desert sands in stage 2 have more than a hint of Frank Herbert's Dune about them, or possibly a touch of Star Wars?

The game design might not be original, but the production values and technical competency make this an uncomplicated blast. Galactic Storm is great fun.
