The Highest Peak in New Zealand: Aoraki Mountain AKA Mount Cook #MountCook #Aoraki #NewZealand

Before driving to Wanaka from Twizel, we decided to take a little detour and it turned out to be one of the absolutely highlights of the whole South Island trip. We go to explore a little bit of the Mount Cook / Aoraki National Park.

Mount Cook / Aoraki is the highest peak in NZ with its peak at an altitude of 3,754 meters (12,316 feet), and its permanently snow-capped peak and glaciers provide an even more breathtaking view.

We spent only half a day as we needed to keep going to Wanaka (the next video coming soon). It was enough to go for a memorable walk and visit the #AlpineMemorial a monument in the shape of an elongated pyramid made up of rough mountain stones. The monument commemorates the dozens of climbers who have sadly lost their lives on the mountain.

After this we walk over the first suspension bridge and experience the amazing jaw-dropping views of Mount Cook, the valley beneath our feet and the blue turquoise glacial stream of water down below. It was certainly an unforgettable experience.
