Developed in conjunction with the FN P90 personal defense weapon and the FN 5.7×28mm cartridge, the lightweight polymer-based Five-seven shares many design features with the P90, including ambidextrous controls, low recoil, and the ability to penetrate body armor.

Originally restricted to military and law enforcement, the Five-seven has been available to civilians since 2004.

Despite being offered only with sporting ammunition, the pistol has been controversial in the US.

The Five-seven is in service with military and police forces in over 40 nations, including the US Secret Service.

Developed in response to NATO requests for new personal defense weapons, the Five-seven and its ammunition were designed to provide personal protection in last-resort situations.

The reduced length of the 5.7×28mm SS190 projectile allowed it to be used more conveniently in the Five-seven, which was under development at that time.

The pistol first entered service in May 2000.

FN Five-seveN Associated Products

The USG features a number of changes to comply with US firearms regulations, including a manual safety and a magazine disconnect safety.

The USG is currently the only variant of the Five-seveN that is available for sale in the US.
