Kanagawa Prefecture has reduced the salary of a 30-year-old male employee for illegally gambling at online casinos from November of last year to May of last year.

This is the second time that this male employee has been punished for illegally gambling at online casinos.

The 30-year-old male employee working at the Kanagawa Prefecture Environmental and Agricultural Administration Bureau was given a 10% pay cut and six-month disciplinary punishment on the 9th. Despite having illegally gambled at online casinos from November of last year to May of last year, he falsely explained to his superiors that he had not gambled during an interview.

The male employee had received a six-month suspension in April of last year for illegally gambling at online casinos from around January 2020.

However, he reported to the prefecture that he had received a summary order for a fine from the Odawara Summary Court in March of this year.

When the details were checked, illegal gambling that was not included in the previous punishment was found, and the situation came to light.

"He said, 'I was aware that it was illegal, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal.' He had been sincere in his interviews with his department, so we had believed that he had reformed and been rehabilitated, and this is truly regrettable and sad."
