El Salvador Surprised Me - First Impressions as an American Traveler 🇸🇻

This is how I spent my first day in El Salvador - I'm from the USA and before I arrived I had only heard about El Salvador for headlines like this one in 2012 saying it was the most dangerous country in the world. This all changed a few years ago when El Salvador's president, who some call a dictator, rounded up 33,000 gang-affiliated young men and put them all in prison. To this day, it's one of the most contentious potential human rights violations in recent history - because many of the men imprisoned were convicted on light evidence.

I wanted to see this country for myself so today I explored the Central Market in San Salvador and tried dozens of local dishes - what stuck out the most was the "Sopa de Patas" or "Cows Foot Soup", which was a dish truly foreign to me.

All in all, I felt completely safe the entire time and I hope this country succeeds in its effort to build its tourism economy. What do you think, would you visit El Salvador?
