I think one of the hardest and most respectable attributes in someone is being able to admit they were wrong, or at least admit fault in part. When people double down on a bad argument is when they really start to lose respect.
Just for clarification, who is the expert in this conversation?
I wish Hitch was around now I am sure he would have something intellectual and ethical to say. He is missed
I don’t understand, if Dave Smith is not an expert and has no idea what he’s talking about - then dismantling and destroying his shallow arguments should be a piece of cake.
Here for the comments
I would like Sam to interview Douglas Murray on his view of Donald Trump
Never had I heard such a self aggrandizing circle-jerk of moral obfuscation between two individuals to this degree until now. 5 stars
Just now, I had a shallow sort of epiphany.
My first exposure to Sam Harris was way back in 2006, during the "Beyond Belief" symposium video series. I've read all of his books since, and I've come to value him as one of the voices of reason inside my head. At the time, my intellectual hero was a barely-known biologist, Niall Shanks, who had been fighting the good fight against "Intelligent Design" in a series of boring daytime-TV debates. The subject had awakened in me a sense of purpose: to expose the silliness of this belief system, even if it should cost me. It has.
Over the twenty years since, I've continued to absorb media presentations on the subject, and I've seen them slowly morph. Back then, a subject was discussed in earnest, out of a sense of inspired duty or curiosity. Today, as I watch this, it's become clear that it's now more about a presenter's person and experience, and their resultant public image, and the tenability of their remaining watchable. No matter the subject, this smell seems to enter the room; ideas in media have long become secondary to "content creation," and this content is no longer really educating me. The idea has become just another delivery system for advertisements.
For all our struggle to remain intellectually honest with ourselves and shed self & ego, we've just created a back-door for the same old ape tendencies to still operate on us elsewhere, in quiet, subconsciously, where our intuition can scratch its itches while we believe to be educating ourselves with video. This platform is now corrupted. If I'm being honest, I'll learn more today by going outside to walk in the woods and ponder some budding Mayapples.
I'm just here for the thoughtful and balanced comments
Sam does a great job of noting the insane driving force of religious thinking on the palestinian's side, but somehow doesn't see it relevant to mention it with regards to israelis. That's a man who loves to dumb down religious thinking every opportunity he gets, but is perfectly willing to let Douglas mention the jews' strong religious ties to the land and not comment his usual trope.
They know that everyone can go watch the Rogan episode right? Like we all saw what happened with our own eyes. Or ears.
Absolutely love to listen to the brilliant Douglas Murray. Pure pleasure. Thank you for your work and wisdom. 🙏
I come from Scandinavia. We used to be Vikings and rule the world, because dying in battle would secure you a spot in Valhalla. There are good reasons why there are no more vikings in the world. The things you can convince people to do when you value dying over living is beyond evil.
I’m glad the entire debate between the comedian Dave Smith and clown Douglas is available for everyone to see how dishonest and misleading this interview is.
If Sam and Douglas labels any sort of anti-Israelism as anti-Semitism, then I'd like to hear if they think learned scholars of Jewish decent like Jeffrey Sachs, Norm Finkelstein, Gabor Mate, Ezra Klein, and Noam Chomsky are anti-semites.
GOD BLESS THANK YOU DOUGLAS MURRAY 🔥✝️🕊🛐🙏🙌
Real question. What field are these two experts in?
Bro, i can steelman these guys' arguements because im not afraid of giving them ground. Why can't they give Dave Smith ONE SINGLE piece of credit?
You have to ask yourself, "Is my side always right? Are the others always wrong?" Because thats kind of a red flag
Youre witnessing the "human" version of when animals lick each others wounds😂.
