Ingendael is a nature reserve in South Limburg, in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. This nature reserve changes from a plateau forest to a hillside forest that flows into the Geul River, wet calcareous grasslands are found and everywhere there is something special to experience.
The area is mainly grazed by Galloway cattle which is a breed of hornless cattle, usually black-haired, originally from the south-west of Scotland. Galloways are often used in nature reserves as large herbivores. They require little care and are not aggressive.
Konik horses are originally a semi-wild horse breed bred in Poland, small in size and very austere. Koń in Polish means horse Cattle and horses have been used in nature management in the Netherlands for 40 years, grazing and thanks to this natural grazing, the animals live in the wild all year round and must be largely self-sufficient.
The grazing of Galloway cattle and Konik horses has created a rugged and varied terrain.
From the valley of the stream there is a beautiful view of St. Gerlach Castle and Geulzicht Castle.
