Pulsus paradoxus: a high-yield Cardiology concept for USMLE Step 1 CK.

Pulsus paradoxus is an abnormally large decrease in systolic blood pressure during inspiration (inhalation). Normally, systolic blood pressure drops slightly during inspiration, but in pulsus paradoxus, the drop is greater than 10 mmHg. It's a clinical sign often associated with conditions causing increased intrathoracic pressure that restricts right ventricular filling, such as cardiac tamponade, severe asthma, and constrictive pericarditis.

This video is part of a playlist of High-Yield Medical Concepts designed for short revisions of important topics frequently appearing in medical licensing exams like USMLE, PLAB, MRCP, SMLE, progress tests, and more.
