Hana Barre shares her father’s journey to becoming politically aware and how his experience has shaped her attitude towards politics.

Growing up, Hana Barre watched more C-SPAN than Sesame Street, and election night was the Superbowl in her household. She attributes this political awareness to her father— a Somalian refugee whose life was changed by one piece of legislation. From his experience, Hana realized how one bill could change millions of lives, and how every citizen has a responsibility to participate in the democratic process. In this Talk, Hana breaks down why we should be politically active and shares a few simple ways to start getting involved.

TED-Ed, TED's education initiative, inspires tomorrow's TED speakers and future leaders by supporting students in discovering, developing and sharing their big ideas in the form of short, TED-style talks. In the TED-Ed Student Talk program, students work together to discuss and celebrate creative ideas through TED-Ed's flexible curriculum. Check out bit.ly/2pHbsEp if you're interested in getting started.
