The Prunksaal of the Austrian National Library in Vienna is a breathtaking Baroque masterpiece and one of the most beautiful historic library halls in the world. Built in the 18th century, the hall is over 80 meters long and crowned by a magnificent dome with frescoes by Daniel Gran, celebrating the glory of the Habsburg dynasty.
At the heart of the Prunksaal stands a majestic marble statue of Emperor Charles VI, who commissioned the library. Positioned directly beneath the central dome, he is portrayed in Roman-style robes, symbolizing imperial power and knowledge. Around him are other statues of Habsburg rulers and great minds, silently guarding the 200,000 ancient books and manuscripts that fill the space.
