Once abandoned rail yard restored - Hopedale, MA - 7/2022

Earlier this month I filmed the Grafton & Upton's Hopedale Yard in action with the local freight switching it out. The G&U line has an amazing history starting as a narrow gauge line converted to standard, later interurban line turned completely freight before being virtually all "abandoned" and unused until new ownership came in and restored the 16 mile line end to end. Also since it's start up in 1873, it has stayed completely independent. The line from Upton to Hopedale last saw use around 1988 and sat virtually abandoned although I don't believe it was ever legally abandoned. New ownership restored the line to Hopedale in the fall of 2012 and has ever since been making improvements to the yard area there. In 2021 a number of storage tracks were built where other tracks had been years before, resulting in the yard having a higher capacity to continue serving their growing customer base. A previous video (   • Railyard Restoration: Grafton & Upton Hope...  ) showed some of the improvements since 2014 but this video shows freight operations within the yard. After leaving the yard we see the train one last time on the restored mainline passing where the Draper Factory once stood.
