नवरात्रि के चौथे दिन मा कुष्मांडा की पूजा की जाती है। आदि शक्ति के इस अवतार को नाम तीन अलग-अलग शब्दों से बना है। पहला शब्द "कू" है जिसका अर्थ थोड़ा है। दूसरा शब्द "उश्मा" है जिसका अर्थ है ऊष्मा या ऊर्जा। और तीसरा शब्द है “अंद” जिसका अर्थ है अंडा।अर्थात ऊष्मा का एक छोटा सा गोला। एक ऐसा पवित्र गोला जिसने इस समस्त ब्रह्मांड की रचना की। मा कुष्मांडा की आठ भुजाएँ हैं। इनके सात हाथों में कमण्डल, धनुष, बाण, कमल-पुष्प, अमृतपूर्ण कलश, चक्र तथा गदा हैं। आठवें हाथ में सभी सिद्धियों और निधियों को देने वाली रुद्राक्ष की जाप माला है। कुष्मांडा मां शेर की सवारी करती है जो भक्तों में निर्भयता का संचार करता है। मां कुष्मांडा की पूजा अर्चना करने से सब प्रकार के सुखों की प्राप्ति होती है। कुष्मांडा मां की प्रतिदिन पूजा से समृद्धि, शक्तियां, सुख और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। मांअपने भक्तों की सभी बीमारियों, परेशानियों और कष्टों को नष्ट कर देती है।
माँ कुष्मांडा आध्यात्मिक साधना में अनाहत चक्र का प्रतिनिधित्व करती हैं। अनाहत चक्र योग साधना की चक्र संकल्पना का चौथा चक्र है। अनाहत का अर्थ है शाश्वत। यह चक्र हृदय के समीप सीने के मध्य भाग में स्थित है।माँ कुष्मांडा का दिव्य आशीर्वाद स्वास्थ्य और धन की वृद्धि करने में मदद करता है। मा कुष्मांडा के बारे में एक बड़ी ही रोचक कथा है।
